Frequently Asked Questions

Where to Start?

For anyone looking to engage in psychological services your best starting place is with your GP. Your GP can discuss your concerns and organise, if needed, a GP referral and MHCP to see a psychologist. If you are not wanting to engage therapy under GP referral, you can see a counsellor who does not require a GP referral.

What Does a GP Referral and Mental Health Care Plan do for me?

Organising a GP Referral and MHCP allows clients to access Medicare for a rebate on psychology fees paid.  The Medicare rebate does not cover the full cost of the appointment, clients will receive a portion of fees back under a Medicare rebate and can access 10 Medicare rebated session per calendar year.

Therapy sessions are paid in full at the time of your appointment. Once payment has been made your Medicare rebate will be processed via our system on your behalf. Rebates will be paid into the client’s nominated bank account held with Medicare.

Making an appointment with your Psychologist

Admin support will organise a series of appointments for you with your psychologist and will email a Client Welcome Pack via your nominated email address. This pack includes confirmation of your initial appointment, Practice Fees and Medicare rebate information, a consent to therapy form, client information form and mood screener form. These forms can be completed online and will populate into your client profile once complete. If clients are not able to complete online forms, manual forms are available at Reception and will need to be completed prior to your initial appointment.

How long will your psychology session go for?

Please allow 1 hour for your initial consultation. Your psychologist will do his/her best at all times to run to time but there may be occasions outside of our control where delays may be experienced. If this is the case, our practice staff will contact you with as much notice as possible to avoid your wait.

Ongoing Sessions

Please allow 50 minutes for every session after your initial session.

What if I cannot make my Appointment?

With all appointments, reminder text messages are automatically sent to clients several days prior to the date of appointments. If you are unable to attend, we ask you respond NO or contact the Practice at your earliest convenience to reschedule appointments. The Deepwater Practice has a Cancellation Policy which is outlined in the client welcome pack or hardcopy paperwork you can pick up from reception.

Any appointments cancelled within 24 hours of the scheduled appointment will incur a cancellation fee of $60.00. Please also be aware that this cancellation fee CANNOT be Medicare rebated, will not be paid by a 3rd party (eg Workers Compensation Insurers, CTP) and no further appointments can be organised until any outstanding cancellation fees are paid.

Do you Bulk Bill?

The Deepwater Practice is not a bulk billing practice.

NDIS Clients

The Deepwater Practice sees self-managed and plan-managed NDIS clients.  NDIS Service Agreements will be put in place once client services and requirements are confirmed. Cancellation of appointments needs to be confirmed outside of 24 hours from the scheduled appointments. Late cancellations will be invoiced to plan managers or charged to self managed clients as per NDIS rates.

Workers Compensation

Clients can make appointments with our SIRA approved psychologists.  We require approval of all claims in writing from Insurers before any therapy sessions can commence.
